One person injured in a fire at a Tsuen Wan construction site was in a critical condition on Thursday night, while a colleague who was also hurt in the incident was released from hospital.
The two workers from the Drainage Services Department suffered broken bones while escaping the fire in a two-storey modular block at the site under the Hoi Kok Street elevated bypass.
Firefighters said the blaze, which blanketed the surrounding area in smoke, started at 6:38am and was upgraded to a No 3 alarm just before 7am.
Four jets and three breathing apparatus teams were deployed, and the fire was put out just before 11am.
Officers from the Environmental Protection Department were also called out to investigate the possible toxicity of the heavy smoke in the area and they had advised people in Tsuen Wan, Tsing Yi and Kwai Chung to close their doors and windows if necessary.
