Executive councillor Jeffrey Lam on Wednesday said the Belt and Road Initiative will make the world a better place if all eight points of action proposed by President Xi Jinping are realised.

Lam, who's part of the 70-strong delegation led by the Chief Executive to attend the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, said the initiative has brought positive differences to participating countries in the past decade.

He said he's expecting even more changes after the President proposed new areas of development.

"The eight points that the President has mentioned, are all in different areas, like economic, livelihood, exchanges," he told RTHK.

"The ten years [of] the Belt and Road Initiative has helped a lot of countries along the road to improve their infrastructure, livelihood and make life in different countries better."

The legislator said he particularly agrees with Xi's remark that "Only when the world is good, China will be good. And only when China is good, the world will be good".

Lam added that he looks forward to seeing the win-win outcomes brought by the eight measures, including the scrapping of all restrictions on foreign investment access in the manufacturing sector, and the setting up of pilot zones for Silk Road e-commerce cooperation.
