Business groups on Friday voiced support for the government's bill on national security legislation under Article 23 of the Basic Law.
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) said it welcomed "the speed and clarity at which the government has incorporated many of the comments from the consultation period" into the draft legislation.
"HKGCC is pleased to see that the legislation is clearly defined and has also included reasonable exclusions," it said in a statement. "The bill gazetted today has addressed people's concerns."
Jonathan Choi, the chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, said the homegrown legislation, along with the National Security Law, could help push Hong Kong to be a prime option for foreign investment to explore the mainland and Asia-Pacific markets.
The Chinese Manufacturers' Association also welcomed the bill.
"[The bill] can effectively prevent, suppress and punish acts endangering national security, it also will not hinder lawful commercial activities and international exchanges, allowing Hong Kong to continue to act as a 'super-connector'," the group said.
The Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong described the bill as "an important step" in implementing the constitutional duty of Hong Kong on safeguarding national security.
