Chief Executive John Lee on Friday appealed to the entire city to rally behind Hong Kong's Olympic athletes.
In a Facebook post, the CE highlighted the continued emergence of new talent, adding that he believed all athletes would give their best on the world stage.
"A total of 35 athletes from Hong Kong, China, will be competing in 13 sports at the upcoming Olympic Games, with more than half of them making their Olympic debut. This not only marks the passing of the torch of Hong Kong sports to the new generation, but also highlights the emergence of new talent in the field," he wrote.
Lee said the government has secured the television rights for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
These events will be broadcast live on four free-to-air television channels and screened at designated sports centres in all 18 districts, he said.
Calling for a citywide celebration, Lee urged everyone to unite in cheering on Hong Kong's Olympic athletes.
