China’s Zou Jingyuan retained his title in the men’s artistic gymnastics parallel bars on Monday at the Paris Olympics, while compatriot Zhang Boheng missed out of the podium after being edged out by Japan’s Shinnosuke Oka.
The reigning champion executed his routine with precision, hitting each handstand and hold to earn him a difficulty score of 6.900 and an execution score of 9.300, for an overall 16.200.
Ukraine’s Illia Kovtun won silver with the highest difficulty of the competition of 7.000, to earn a 15.500 total.
China’s Zhang had been in third for much of the competition, but was ultimately overtaken by Oka, who earned 15.300.
There were a total of eight competitors at this event.
This is Zou's third medal in Paris and China's second gold in gymnastics.
