Chairman of Asia Narratives Einar Tangen speaks with Carol Musgrave
An analyst on Thursday said the advent of artificial intelligence startups such as DeepSeek has been a boon to the nation’s technological development.

Senior Fellow at the Taihe Institute and the Chairman of Asia Narratives, Einar Tangen’s comment came after Beijing said it will boost support for the application of AI models to foster more breakthroughs in technology.

He told RTHK's Hong Kong Today programme that AI startups have been “a revelation” for policymakers.

“Quite frankly, these kind of breakthroughs – whether it's in film or with video games, and now artificial intelligence – this has really boosted the government’s confidence in its own sectors,” he said.

“It also completely changed the regular citizen’s view and confidence in their abilities as well."

Speaking on the government work report’s efforts to deepen cooperation with other countries, Tangen said the world is “positive” on the nation’s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative.

“They’re just simply saying, we’ll continue to grow where we are welcome and continue to invest where we are welcome.”

Tangen also noted the work report said that Hong Kong and Macau will continue to connect the nation with the rest of the world.

“A lot of that has to do with trying to attract investment," he said.

"Hong Kong plays a prominent position in that and they’re trying to assure them that One Country, Two Systems will continue and that both of these entities are very valuable.”
