Hong Kong, China Tennis Association announced on Saturday a 12-player squad for this month’s Asian Games in Nagoya, led by the city’s top-ranked players Coleman Wong and Eudice Chong.

The association said Hong Kong will compete in all five core tennis disciplines: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Association president Michael Cheng described the lineup as one of the strongest Hong Kong has ever sent to the Asian Games.

"They have already proven themselves on the world stage – now they are ready to chase medals," he said.

"To every member of Team Hong Kong: go out there, leave everything on the court, and make the whole city roar. Hong Kong is behind you every step of the way."

Wong, who recently broke into the ATP top 100, said it is particularly special to return to the Asian Games men’s singles event.

"Building on my quarterfinal run in the Hangzhou Asian Games and the experience I’ve gained on the ATP tour and Grand Slams, I'm ready to give everything on the court to deliver the best results for Hong Kong," he said.

Chong, who will compete in the women’s doubles with Cody Wong and mixed doubles with Kai Thompson, said representing Hong Kong at the Asian Games again fills her with immense pride.

"This year, I have made a major breakthrough in doubles, breaking into the top 60 rankings. I have also competed in three Grand Slams, which has given me greater confidence in handling the pressure at major events," she said.

Rising Hong Kong star Kai Thompson, who is making his Asian Games debut, said he believes the experience he gained from competing at the National Games and in the junior Grand Slam will help him build a strong mindset and perform at his best during the competition.

The Hong Kong tennis squad will compete at the Games from September 27 to October 3 at Higashiyama Park Tennis Centre in Nagoya.
