Hong Kong, China closed the final day of swimming at the Asian Games without a medal on Friday, but Natalie Kan ensured there was still a record to celebrate at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

Kan broke the Hong Kong record twice in one day in the women’s 50 metres butterfly.

She had set the previous mark of 26.34 seconds in April, then lowered it to 26.28 in the morning heats, where she also finished first in her heat.

In the final, she improved again to 26.11 seconds, finishing fourth, just 0.14 seconds behind Japan’s bronze medallist.

Teammate Yeung Hoi-ching also reached the final, placing tenth in 27.55 seconds.

The national team’s Zhang Yufei and Wu Qingfeng took gold and silver, while Japan’s Rikako Ikee claimed bronze.

In the men’s 50 metres breaststroke final, Hong Kong’s Adam Mak finished seventh in 27.77 seconds. China’s Qin Haiyang and Liu Junjie went one-two for gold and silver, with Japan’s Shin Ohashi taking bronze.

Meanwhile, Gilaine Ma and Candice Gao placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the women’s 800 metres freestyle, while Hayden Kwan, the Hong Kong record holder in the men’s 200 metres backstroke, finished eighth in that event final.

Ho Chung-lun finished the men's 200 metres butterfly with a time of two minutes and 2.15 seconds to come in tenth, and the SAR finished fifth in the women's 4x100 metres medley relay in four minutes and 6.27 seconds.

The SAR swimming team leaves the Asian Games with six medals: two gold, three silver and one bronze.
