Lawmakers on Friday passed non-binding motions on the Hong Kong's first five-year plan and the Policy Address following a three-day debate.
Legco House Committee chairman Ronick Chan noted that a total of 88 lawmakers shared their views during the discussions, spanning nearly 27 hours.
Making his closing remarks before the vote, Chief Secretary Eric Chan expressed thanks to lawmakers for raising valuable feedback across a wide range of topics over the past three days.
“The process of formulating Hong Kong's five-year plan, as well as this in-depth debate in the Legislative Council, precisely demonstrates the positive executive-legislative interaction, working together for Hong Kong's development,” he said.
“I once again thank the members for putting forward valuable opinions, and I deeply feel that, in the process of promoting the implementation of Hong Kong's five-year plan and the measures in the Policy Address, you are our solid partners.”
“I firmly believe that as long as we work together, stay proactive, and be pragmatic and result-oriented, we will be able to put Hong Kong's five-year plan into practice and create a better future for the people.”
Writing on social media, Chief Executive John Lee thanked lawmakers for approving the motions, saying the government will carefully study their suggestions to ensure policy outcomes are delivered.
He added that his team will continue to work closely with the legislature, and join hands to drive better development for society and improve livelihoods.
