China marks war victory with commemorations
China is holding its V-Day commemorations this week marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
President Xi Jinping and more than two dozens foreign leaders will take part in the events.
Eighty years on and China is honoured for being the first country in the world to stand up to a fascist aggressor, and for its 14 years of resistance against Japan, the longest by any nation, along with all the sacrifices made.
David Gosset, founder of the think-tank China-Europe-America Global Initiative, told Azam Khan about China’s role in bringing an end to the war and how it would go on to shape its pursuit of peace on the global stage.
