Turkey in mourning as ski resort hotel fire kills 76  Listenfacebook
At least 76 people have died and a further 51 injured in a hotel fire in northwestern Turkey. The blaze in the middle of the night raged through the 12-storey hotel at a popular ski resort. Officials say at least two of the deaths were a result of panicked guests jumping from the building to escape the flames. Jamie Clarke reports.

As a fragile new ceasefire in the Gaza Strip enters its fourth day, Israel has launched a large operation in the occupied West Bank - killing at least nine people. The truce, which started on Sunday, does not apply to the West Bank. Meanwhile, Israel's top general has resigned, adding pressure to the country's prime minister, as Jamie Clarke reports.

China says it hopes to cooperate with the United States to resolve trade issues. This follows the swearing-in of Donald Trump as US president. Beijing also spoke about the need for senior officials of the two countries to maintain contacts, as Kelly Yu reports.

RTHK's US correspondent Simon Marks said that among the many executive orders that Donald Trump signed upon his return to the White House, one especially stood out - the pardoning of more than 1,500 people involved in the January 6, 2021 uprising on Capitol Hill. Greater Bay Airlines apologises for cancellations, but CNY flights unaffected  Listenfacebook
Greater Bay Airlines says it is cancelling 128 flights in February and March. Around 5,500 passengers mostly travelling to and from Japan, Thailand and South Korea will be affected. The airline apologised for the cancellations, but insisted all flights during the Lunar New Year holiday are not affected. But as Kelly Yu reports, some package tours from mid-February have to be cancelled as a result.
10 HKers still trapped in Southeast Asian scam farms  Listenfacebook
Chief Executive John Lee says the city will strengthen cooperation with other places to try to secure the release of SAR residents being held prisoner in so-called "scam farms" in Southeast Asia. It's believed that 10 Hongkongers are currently being forced to take part in fraudulent activities after being tricked into travelling to Thailand and neighbouring countries. Frank Yung reports.

Competition regulator launches educational website for SMEs  Listenfacebook
The Competition Commission has launched a new website, in a bid to help small and medium-sized enterprises or SMEs comply with the Competition Ordinance. A survey of 600 firms by the watchdog found that less than a quarter of them have taken adequate steps to make sure they don't fall foul of competition laws. The commission's executive director, Gary Shiu, who works on policy and advocacy, says the platform can help prevent anti-competition practices at source. He spoke to Charlie Chun.

The Lunar New Year fireworks display next week will feature images of pandas, smiley faces and gold ingots. The 23-minute show will light up Victoria Harbour at 8pm on January 30, the second day of the Year of the Snake. A crisis hotline says there's been an increase in the number of calls it received from people who are in debt. The Family Crisis Support Centre under Caritas Family Service received almost 1,800 requests for help in 2023 to 2024, up a third from the year before. One-third of those calls involved people having financial problems. Sally Choi, senior social work supervisor from Caritas, spoke to Kimmy Lau on why people who are in debt are more likely to have suicidal thoughts.
HK gears up for major snooker tournament  Listenfacebook
Hong Kong is set to host the World Snooker Grand Prix for the first time. The ranking tournament will take place at Kai Tak Arena in early March, and it'll be the first sport event held at the new facility. Vincent Law, chairman of the Billiard Sports Council of Hong Kong China, told Carlos Leung that they're doing their best to make the event a success.

Thailand took the step last year to legalise same-sex marriage after a marriage equality bill was passed in parliament. That bill comes into force today, capping decades of efforts by activists. Thailand will become the first Southeast Asian country to recognise marriages of same-sex couples. But for some, the new law still leaves hurdles to building a legally-recognised family.
