The top Beijing official overseeing SAR affairs has slammed the United States for imposing heavy tariffs on Hong Kong, calling the move "extremely arrogant and shameless". Xia Baolong, the director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, says tariffs of up to 145 percent on SAR goods showed, in his words, that "the US is after our very survival". An association representing global mobile operators says the SAR is a pivotal region for innovation and technology, and that it can learn from the mainland. The Groupe Speciale Mobile Association, better known as GSMA, says operators on the mainland and in Hong Kong are leaders in the development and implementation of AI solutions. France grapples with attacks on prisons
