Hong Kong's rail operator should boost contingency plans and measures to deal with crowds at turnstiles and network issues that delay QR-code payments. That's what lawmaker Gary Zhang had to say after the MTR said there were more people using their phones to pay with QR codes at Lok Ma Chau on Friday, and that the mobile data network and station Wi-Fi facilities could not handle the surge in demand. The Cheung Chau bun festival wrapped up on Monday with the midnight bun-scrambling competition. Ten-time champion Jason Kwok defended his title as "Bun King" and ice climber Janet Kung won the title of "Bun Queen". Think tanks are calling on authorities to provide more support to entrepreneurs starting businesses in the Greater Bay Area. This came after the Hong Kong Coalition and Our Hong Kong Foundation visited 13 entrepreneurial bases in the Greater Bay Area and talked to 31 entrepreneurs from the SAR working there. This is a follow-up study from last June, which said entrepreneurs lacked knowledge of policies and the business environment on the mainland. The foundation's assistant research director Victor Kwok spoke to Charlie Chun.

All 133 cardinals expected to take part in the secret conclave to elect a new pontiff have arrived in Rome - that's according to the Vatican - with the race to succeed Pope Francis seen as wide open. The conclave will start at the Sistine Chapel on Wednesday. There are a few seen as potential front-runners to succeed Francis. Two often mentioned are an Italian and a Filipino, who would be the first Asian pope if elected. However, many have not made up their minds - as Jamie Clarke reports:

US stocks closed lower overnight, ending a nine-day streak of gains for the S&P 500 index. The broad-based index fell 0.6 percent, while the Dow Jones closed down 0.2 percent. The tech-rich Nasdaq completed the trio of declines among the major Wall Street indices. Shares in US movie studios slid following a threat by US President Donald Trump to impose a 100 percent tariff on foreign-made films. Looking ahead, analysts said stocks were priced for expectations that there will be significant trade deals between the United States and top trading partners. But as RTHK's Washington correspondent Barry Wood told Ben Tse, he wasn't so sure that new deals were in the pipeline:

Israel has approved plans to seize the Gaza Strip and to stay in the Palestinian territory for an unspecified amount of time. The new plan also calls for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to move to Gaza's south. Details of the plan have not been formally announced, and its exact timing and implementation are not yet clear. Its approval came hours after the Israeli military chief said the army was calling up tens of thousands of reserve soldiers. Jamie Clarke has more:
