Siobhan Haughey scoops second Paris medal  Listenfacebook
Hong Kong swimmer Siobhan Haughey won her second medal of the Paris Olympics and fourth overall. Haughey was in contention in the Women's 100m Freestyle final right up to the finish but lost by less than a fifth of a second to Swedish world record holder, Sarah Sjostrom. Hong Kong has posted stronger second-quarter GDP growth. The economy grew 3.3 percent in the three months ending June, up from a 2.8 percent increase in the first period. The government attributed the stronger growth to an increase in exports and investment spending. Natixis Asia Pacific economist Gary Ng told Anne Chan that the figure was higher than he expected but that pressures remain:

The first group of non-Chinese permanent residents in Hong Kong has received their travel cards to go to the mainland. The permit allows them to head north for up to 90 days at a time. The chairman of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Dato' Gan Khai Choon, was among those who picked up their travel cards at a China Travel Service centre on Wednesday. He told Charlie Chun that it used to be a "cumbersome" process for Malaysians wanting to cross the border:

Foreign business leaders have said the new permit to head up north has provided easier access to the mainland. Alfred Buchner, a former committee member of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce says he has not travelled to the mainland for seven years. He was among those collecting his new mainland travel card on Wednesday. He said the permit provided a lot of "encouragement" to visit the mainland. He spoke to Charlie Chun at a China Travel Service centre in Sheung Wan:

Five new taxi fleets are ready to hit the streets within a year. As Frank Yung reports, transport authorities said they received 15 licence applications in total:

The University of Hong Kong says it has developed a medical-grade smartphone stethoscope that could be used for the early detection of heart disease. The team behind the AI-powered software says it has an accuracy of about 80 percent in detecting significant valvular disease. Georgina Lee reports:

The stethoscope app called Vitogram won a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. Users can digitise and analyse their heart sounds by placing their own mobile device on their chest. Developer, HKU professor Joshua Ho, described it as an 'AI doctor in your pocket.' World Breastfeeding Week is officially celebrated on August 1-7 every year. The theme this year is "Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All", with the aim to eliminate breastfeeding barriers and support mothers to sustain breastfeeding through collaboration from different levels of the society. Dr Leung Wing-cheong, Consultant of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Kwong Wah Hospital, spoke to Natasha Ho about the benefits of nursing and how society could be more supportive:

The Israeli government says it is on "extremely high alert" following the killing of a senior Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran and of a commander of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Beirut. Haniyeh was visiting the Iranian capital for the inauguration of the new President. Israel has not admitted to killing Haniyeh but acknowledged targeting a senior Hezbollah commander, who it blamed for a rocket attack that killed 12 young people. Paul Rogers, Professor of Peace Studies at the University of Bradford in England, says the deaths raise the prospect of a further regional escalation of the conflict in Gaza and casts a shadow over ceasefire talks.
