FBI probing New Orleans attack as 'act of terrorism'  Listenfacebook
At least 15 people are dead and dozens injured, after a driver rammed his vehicle into a crowd in the southern US city of New Orleans. The incident took place in the early hours of New Year's Day, when revellers were still celebrating on the streets. The driver was later killed in a firefight with police, and the FBI is now investigating the attack as an act of terrorism. Jamie Clarke reports.
C919 lands in HK in first commercial flight outside mainland China  Listenfacebook
A domestically-produced C919 aircraft has completed its first commercial flight to Hong Kong amid much fanfare. The homegrown passenger jet, operated by China Eastern Airlines and carrying around 160 passengers, took off from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 8.15am on Wednesday and landed in the SAR about two-and-a-half hours later. Our reporter Elvis Yu was on the maiden flight and filed this report.

The operator of the Kai Tak cruise terminal says now is the right time to invite tenders for the facility, even though the current contract ends in 2028. Jeff Bent, managing director of Worldwide Cruise Terminals, explains that cruise companies plan way in advance so it is necessary for them to know who they will be dealing with. His comments come after the government announced earlier in the week that it would put the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal managing rights up for tender three years before the existing contract expires. He spoke to Janice Lo.
Security chief pledges review for special cross-border arrangements  Listenfacebook
Secretary for Security Chris Tang says special arrangements - that were put in place at border points on New Year's Day - were smooth, with travellers saying they were able to return to the mainland quickly after taking part in the city's countdown celebrations. As Vanessa Cheng reports, Tang said the government would conduct a thorough review and consider whether there was a need to further tweak arrangements in future.

The Society for Community Organisation, together with the Children's Rights Association, says the government's current policies are not enough to tackle the problem and are affecting children's rights. Grieving relatives of victims of the South Korea plane crash have gathered at the crash site to pay respects to their loved ones. All but two of the 181 passengers and crew on board the Jeju Air flight died when it crashed on Sunday, while landing at Muan International Airport.Officials say they extracted data from one of the black boxes. Investigators hope the data can give insights about the crucial moments leading up to the tragedy. Jamie Clarke reports.

The European Union drastically reduced its dependency on Russian gas after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. But stopping the gas flow completely could have a much bigger geopolitical significance. After three months without anyone winning the top prize in the Mega Millions - a ticket worth an estimated US$1.2 billion was sold in California for the draw last week. Why do people believe wild claims on the internet?  Listenfacebook
People have been telling tall tales for centuries. Some of these stories may just be exaggerated versions of the truth, or they can be outright fabrications. Still, most people tend to have an inbuilt lie-detector and know when to take outlandish claims with a pinch of salt. But on social media, it appears that many users somehow accept as true all sorts of wild claims. Take for example, a TikTok video that said a solar eclipse would leave Earth in darkness for up to five days. Or what about cancer-killing pineapple water? These are among the many rumours that have been making the rounds over the past year. So why do people believe in news that obviously sounds fake?
