Legco's House Committee rejects probe into MTR scandal Listen
Legco's House Committee has rejected a proposal to use the council's special powers to probe the corner-cutting saga of the MTR Corporation's Shatin-to-Central link. The motion was moved by Civic Passion’s Cheng Chung-tai over the shortening of steel reinforcement bars on new platforms at the Hung Hom Station. Twenty-six lawmakers voted against, while 21 voted in support. Surveying sector legislator Tony Tse was among two lawmakers who abstained from voting, although he felt the matter was serious. Overwhelming support in EU for banning single-use plastic products Listen
The European Union recently proposed a ban on single-use plastic products such as straws, cutlery and plates. The director of strategy at the European Commission's environment section Astrid Schomaker is in Hong Kong, in part to talk about the EU's plastic strategy.
