Hong Kong, China sailor Nicholas Halliday has been eliminated from men’s dinghy competition, with two races cancelled on Monday.

The last races were scrapped due to a lack of wind in Marseille, meaning Halliday had no chance to make the top 10 to enter the medal race on Tuesday.

The SAR sailor ranked 24th out of 43 participants.

The 10 participants with the fewest points advance to the medal race. The winner of each race is awarded one point, and the runner-up two, and so on.

After excluding his worst race, Halliday was on 136 net points, compared with 99 for Ireland’s Finn Lynch in 10th place.

Halliday said it was a shame the races got cancelled because he was feeling good to go, but overall he was satisfied with his Olympic debut.

"It was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be, but it was really exciting," he told RTHK in Marseille.

"I think I'm satisfied. I mean I gave it my all, I left no stones unturned, so I'm happy."

Halliday added he's already setting his sights on qualifying for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The 25-year-old is the first SAR Olympian to qualify for the ILCA 7 single-handed event.
