The DAB on Tuesday said it has a list of 26 people it hopes will be able to stand in December's Legislative Council elections, and 12 of them would be running for the first time.

Thirteen of the hopefuls are aiming to contest geographical constituency seats, eight are eyeing Election Committee places, and five are aiming to join functional constituency races.

The party’s vice-chairman, Holden Chow, said they have chosen their best members for the campaign.

“They are all high-calibre candidates, who served the public and the community with whole-hearted commitment, so we believe that all candidates we field in this election are the best candidates,” Chow said.

The average age of the would-be candidates stands at 47, with the youngest being 35.

The party’s chairman, Gary Chan, said the 12 new names are people who have been serving the community for a long time, and the party hopes to give more opportunities to young people.

The DAB will fight for each and every vote, Chow said, adding that the public recognise the party’s hard work over the years.

“We need to compete for every single vote because every vote counts. It’s going to be difficult, because we are going to see very fierce competition among different candidates, but we trust the public also understand that for DAB, we have served the community and society for 33 years,” Chow said.

Both Chan and Chow are hoping to stand once again in the geographical constituencies.

Current DAB lawmakers Edward Leung, Edward Lau, Kennedy Wong, Lillian Kwok and Stanley Li will not seek re-election.
