Police said they have arrested three people on suspicion of damaging Legco election promotional material while stressing zero tolerance for anyone attempting to interfere with the upcoming polls.
Officials said they arrested three men over the weekend for allegedly damaging election material in Chai Wan, Sham Shui Po and Hang Hau.
In one case, a 24-year-old man is accused of vandalising more than 130 posters put up by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau on various footbridges in Chai Wan.
The suspects face charges of criminal damage.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Kwan Chun-ting, Eastern District Assistant District Commander for Crime, said police would ensure an orderly Legco poll on December 7.
"The police will spare no effort to enforce the law strictly and will work closely with all community stakeholders to ensure that the general public in Hong Kong can vote smoothly on December 7 in a safe environment, and that the Legislative Council elections can proceed safely and in an orderly manner," he said.
