Police have arrested five people, including four teenagers, for allegedly vandalising posters for the upcoming Legislative Council elections.
The four boys, aged 14 to 16, were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage over 20 damaged posters on a footbridge in Yuen Long.
The fifth arrest involved a 70-year-old woman who allegedly damaged seven posters in a Shek Kip Mei housing estate.
In another case, the force picked up a 32-year-old man on suspicion of criminal intimidation for allegedly threatening a campaign worker for a Legco candidate at a street booth in Tin Shui Wai over noise levels.
"The force will adopt a zero-tolerance attitude towards any attempt or intention to interfere with or disrupt the Legislative Council elections," said senior inspector Chan Man-hei.
"We will spare no effort to conduct investigations. We will do our utmost to enforce the law strictly to safeguard national security, public safety and public order, to ensure residents can vote on December 7 in a safe environment, so that the polls can proceed in an orderly manner."
The offence of destroying or damaging any property belonging to another individual without lawful excuse carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, while a conviction for criminal intimidation can lead to up to five years behind bars.
