Chief Executive John Lee on Sunday said he would wear a lapel pin symbolising the city’s first five-year plan while delivering the blueprint and Policy Address on Wednesday.

Writing on his social media, Lee said he and his team would also wear green ties and scarves – all of which, along with the lapel pins, were designed by a team at the Technological and Higher Education Institute.

“The blue lapel pin bears the word ‘one five’, representing Hong Kong’s first five-year plan,” he said.

“The pattern is based on the idea of two overlapping squares, symbolising that Hong Kong brings together resources and diverse talent from all quarters of society, comprehensively deepens high-quality development, consolidates and enhances its economic strength and competitiveness, and shines on the international stage.

“The designs of the ties and scarves draw inspiration from the technological development of the Northern Metropolis, symbolising it will lead Hong Kong in pioneering a new landscape for innovation and technology.”

Lee added that the criss-crossing design on the tie symbolises connectivity and synergy among talent, education and industries.
