Hong Kong, China’s Simmi Chan claimed the team’s first squash medal at the Asian Games, taking bronze after falling to Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in straight games in the semifinals.

The best-of-five women's singles match on Saturday lasted just 26 minutes.

Subramaniam started strong, taking the opening game 11-6.

Chan adjusted her rhythm in the second and was leading 7-3 at one point, but Subramaniam fought back to win 11-8.

The Malaysian then built an early lead in the third game and closed out the match 11-7.

Subramaniam will face India’s Anahat Singh in Sunday’s final after Singh defeated Japan’s Satomi Watanabe in the other semifinal.

Chan and Watanabe will share bronze medal honours, with no third-place match scheduled.

Hong Kong, China is also guaranteed a gold and a silver in squash on Sunday in the mixed doubles final.

The men’s and women’s team pool matches begin on Monday.
