Two co-founders of the Occupy movement, Benny Tai and Chan Kin-man, were among four people slapped with prison sentences by the District Court on Wednesday for their roles in the 2014 protests. But four other defendants, including Reverend Chu Yiu-ming, were spared jail. And the sentencing of Civic Party lawmaker Tanya Chan was postponed because of her medical condition. Annemarie Evans asked former Democratic Party chairwoman, Emily Lau, how she thought the sentences would affect future protests.

The Hong Kong Productivity Council on Wednesday said there's been a rebound in business confidence among local small and medium enterprises, but the overall outlook remains pessimistic. The council's latest index of SME confidence in the business environment recorded its sharpest increase in three years, to give a reading of 46 out of 100, up from 40.4 in the first quarter. Lawrence Cheung, the council's chief innovation officer, told Richard Pyne what was driving this recovery.

The British government has given Chinese telecoms giant Huawei the go-ahead to supply equipment for the UK's 5G data network, despite senior ministers warning it poses a security risk. The London Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on Wednesday that the company will help build some "non-core" parts only, but the plan is said to have concerned the UK’s home, defence and foreign secretaries. Annemarie Evans put it to RTHK's London correspondent Gavin Grey that the British government doesn't seem very together on this.
