A former consultant to the owners' corporation of Wang Fuk Court has urged law enforcement officers to launch a probe into the current committee of the Tai Po residential estate, where the city's deadliest blaze in decades happened.
Peggy Wong, also a DAB district councillor in Tai Po, announced her intention on Monday to file a police report as well as ask the Independent Commission Against Corruption for a separate investigation.
"This fire was not a natural disaster, but a man-made one," she said in a statement on the deadly blaze.
"It's the result of years of neglecting safety by certain people," she wrote.
Wong said she was going to ask the force to investigate whether the devastating fire involved "serious offences", such as dereliction of duty and concealment of safety risks by the owners' corporation, while requesting the anti-graft body to look into the possibility of corruption.
The owners' corporation, in response, said it would fully cooperate with the investigations in the hope of seeking justice for residents and providing a fair explanation.
Offering its deepest condolences, the group said it was committed to post-disaster recovery efforts to relocate all affected individuals.
