Hong Kong’s first five-year blueprint will have a “profound impact” and will offer clear guidance on the socio-economic development of the SAR, Chief Executive John Lee said on Thursday.

The city’s leader also thanked central authorities for their support and care, and for putting forward a number of policies in the 15th Five-Year Plan promoting long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and deepening development in the Greater Bay Area.

In a social media post following the closing of the National People’s Congress (NPC) meeting, Lee vowed to lead the whole of Hong Kong to align with the national development blueprint.

“Hong Kong’s first five-year plan, which aligns with the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan, will have a profound impact. It is a shared action plan for the SAR,” Lee wrote.

“It will outline Hong Kong’s development vision, core objectives, key areas and major initiatives for the next five years, offering clear guidance for Hong Kong’s socio-economic and livelihood development and better integrating into and contributing to the nation’s overall development strategy.”

Local NPC deputy Ma Fung-kwok said it is important for Hong Kong authorities to not work behind closed doors when formulating the city's own five-year plan.

“When we return to Hong Kong, we will showcase, promote and introduce the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan to society,” Ma told reporters in Beijing.

“We will also actively participate in the planning of the city’s five-year blueprint and try our best to share our thoughts. We will also remind the government to make a good effort in aligning with the country’s plan.”
