Hong Kong, China cyclist Ceci Lee added another medal to her Asian Games campaign on Friday, taking bronze in the women’s omnium.
Lee finished with 124 points, nine behind Kazakhstan’s Rinata Sultanova, who took silver. Yumi Kajihara of host nation Japan reclaimed the title from the Hangzhou Games three years ago by taking gold.
The event tests riders across four different races in a single day, with the highest overall score determining the winner.
Lee sat second on 112 points after the scratch, tempo, and elimination races – just four points behind Kajihara.
In the deciding 80-lap points race, where points are awarded to the top four finishers in sprint laps held every 10 laps, Sultanova launched a surprise late charge, adding 27 points to overtake Lee for silver.
Lee managed to collect 12 points, doing just enough to narrowly edge past China's Chen Ning for the bronze.
The 25-year-old, who won silver in the same event in Hangzhou, had opted to skip the road races this time to focus exclusively on track events.
In a post-race interview, Lee expressed disappointment with her performance, saying her stamina failed her in the final stretch.
“This is not the first time I have faced this scenario, and I again failed to address it,” she said.
Lee concluded the Games with two medals – a silver in the Madison and a bronze in the omnium.
Overall, the cycling squad wrapped up the Games with two silver and three bronze medals.
