The University of Hong Kong and Orbis have announced Hong Kong's first large-scale eye screening project for glaucoma. This will involve the deployment of new technology developed by the university's medical school that offers more accurate detection of early glaucoma. Ada Au reports:

More than 3,000 public housing tenants aged 50 or above will be invited at random to undergo the free eye tests in the glaucoma screening project. Clinical Professor Christopher Leung, chair of the university's Department of Ophthalmology, said they hoped to detect the eye condition at an early stage, to slow down the rate of deterioration and help prevent blindness in patients. The Department of Health says it will give out free anti-smoking packs as part of its annual campaign to get smokers to quit. It says they can obtain the one-week trial pack of nicotine patches from pharmacies from Thursday. The department says over 5,000 packs will be available from more than 200 community pharmacies. Towngas has developed a new hydrogen extraction system that it says can supply almost pure hydrogen through its existing pipeline network as a greener alternative to diesel to power heavy vehicles, such as buses. Elvis Yu reports:

The gas flowing through Towngas pipelines, which is used for cooking, has a 50 percent hydrogen mix. But pure hydrogen is needed to recharge hydrogen vehicles. This can now be extracted from the same pipeline using new technology. General Manager Stephen Chan at Towngas, told Elvis Yu that this will do away with the need to transport the gas by truck:
