The financial secretary says it is unlikely the government will dish out consumption vouchers regularly in future because of the burden on public coffers. Paul Chan reminded members of the public that the next round of spending vouchers, worth $2,000, will be available from July 16 for eligible permanent residents and new immigrants. The High Court has rejected a bid by former media tycoon Jimmy Lai to bring a halt to his national security trial. A panel of three judges dismissed his claim that the way national security judges were appointed to hear his case lacked transparency and public accountability and would lead people to think he would not get a fair trial. The University of Hong Kong and Orbis have announced Hong Kong's first large-scale eye screening project for glaucoma. This will involve the deployment of new technology developed by the university's medical school that offers more accurate detection of early glaucoma. Ada Au reports:

More than 3,000 public housing tenants aged 50 or above will be invited at random to undergo the free eye tests in the glaucoma screening project. Clinical Professor Christopher Leung, chair of the university's Department of Ophthalmology, said they hoped to detect the eye condition at an early stage, to slow down the rate of deterioration and help prevent blindness in patients. He told Vicky Wong about the prevalence of glaucoma in the city:
Govt to hand out free anti-smoking packs  Listenfacebook
The Department of Health says it will give out free anti-smoking packs as part of its annual campaign to get smokers to quit. It says they can obtain the one-week trial pack of nicotine patches from pharmacies from Thursday. The department says over 5,000 packs will be available from more than 200 community pharmacies. Dr Fung Ying, the head of its Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office, spoke to Vanessa Cheng:

Towngas has developed a new hydrogen extraction system that it says can supply almost pure hydrogen through its existing pipeline network as a greener alternative to diesel to power heavy vehicles, such as buses. Elvis Yu reports:

The gas flowing through Towngas pipelines, which is used for cooking, has a 50 percent hydrogen mix. But pure hydrogen is needed to recharge hydrogen vehicles. This can now be extracted from the same pipeline using new technology. General Manager Stephen Chan at Towngas, told Elvis Yu that this will do away with the need to transport the gas by truck:

China is sending its first civilian taikonaut into space on Tuesday morning, as part of a crewed mission to the Tiangong space station. The Shenzhou-16 mission will be commanded by a space veteran, who will become the first person in the nation to be sent to space four times. It is set to take off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in Inner Mongolia at 9:31am. Wendy Wong reports:

Singapore state investment fund Temasek says it has cut compensation for those responsible for its failed investment in collapsed cryptocurrency exchange, FTX. The collapse resulted in Temasek writing off US$275 million. Altis Wong reports:
