The Hong Kong Windsurfing Team is gearing up for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, after the competition was delayed for a year to this September due to the pandemic.
The President of the Windsurfing Association of Hong Kong, Chau Ngan-mai, on Wednesday said the team faced several challenges during the pandemic, but they are ready to bring home good results.
"Athletes, with the assistance of our coaches, got well-prepared themselves to [achieve] better results in the coming Asian Games," he said.
"I hope that they can clinch the medals and bring a lot of triumph home, and give a lot of support to windsurfing in Hong Kong, and further promote our sport."
One of the athletes, Alex Cheng, said he's looking forward to participating in his first-ever Asian Games.
"I'm quite nervous, but more excited about it because it's the very first big event for me," he said. "I just want to stay calm and do my best and try to make less mistakes in my competition."
Cheng will be participating in the iQFOiL event, which is also a new division for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"The Asian Games is a part of my career: it's not the most important event. My ultimate goal is, of course, the Olympics," he said.
"So after the Asian Games, I would still like competing, doing my best and learning ... from the past, or all the mistakes I did in the Asian Games or other World Championships, and will do better at the Olympics."
