Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law said on Monday that 2025 is a landmark year for Hong Kong when it comes to sport.
She said the opening of Kai Tak Sports Park in March meant top events are being added to the local calendar, citing next month's Football Festival involving four major European clubs and the National Games in November, to be co-hosted by Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong.
"All these events are more than just games and competitions," Law said during a speech at an event.
"They showcase Hong Kong as a centre for major international sports events and create a festive atmosphere all through our city."
Speaking to reporters at the same event, sports sector lawmaker Kenneth Fok said he hoped that National Games organisers would be able to announce ticketing arrangements as soon as possible.
"Once the announcement is made, we can then work out better sports tourism experiences for tourists, especially those from the Greater Bay Area," Fok said.
"This would not only serve as a rare opportunity to promote the development of local sports, but also a chance to combine sports and tourism."
The lawmaker expressed the hope that more locals, especially young students, can take part in the games, either through watching the events in person or participating in community activities.
