Hong Kong table tennis player Chiu Kan-shan claimed a silver medal in the women’s individual TT7 event at the National Games for Persons with Disabilities on Friday.
Paralympic champion Wang Rui of Sichuan won the gold medal with a straight-sets 3-0 victory over Chiu in the final in Guangzhou.
The contest opened with a tightly contested first game in which the players were evenly matched before Wang pulled ahead to take it 11-8.
She carried that momentum into the second game, racing to a five-point lead.
Although Chiu managed to narrow the gap, Wang closed it out 11-5.
The final game saw another early tie at 5-5, but Wang soon unleashed a fierce offensive to seal it 11-5 and claim the title.
In the bronze medal match, Wang’s teammate Jiang Shan beat Beijing’s Liu Juan 3-1.
Hong Kong has won 10 medals in table tennis – one gold, six silvers and three bronzes – at the National Games for Persons with Disabilities.
