Hong Kong boccia athletes delivered a triumphant performance on home soil on Friday morning, clinching three bronze medals at the National Games for Persons with Disabilities.
The local team’s success was marked by a series of tightly contested matches across different categories at Kai Tak Arena.
In the men’s individual BC4 third-place contest, Tang Zhijiang secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Guangdong’s Zheng Yuansen.
After conceding two points in the opening round, Tang staged a steady comeback, adding one point in each of the following three rounds to claim the win.
Hong Kong’s momentum continued in the women’s individual BC4 event, where Cheung Yuen dominated her match against Guangdong’s Zhan Xia with a 4-1 result.
Cheung built a strong three-point lead across the first two rounds.
Although Zhan won a point in the third round, Cheung sealed her victory with a final point in the fourth.
"I didn't think I played exceptionally well, but I thought it was steadier compared to my performance in the semi finals," Cheung said.
"I was a little nervous because in a bronze medal match, you either get a medal or you don't."
Another bronze was won in the men’s BC1 category, as John Loung overcame Chongqing’s Luo Guanzhong 4-1.
After falling behind early, Loung responded decisively, scoring four unanswered points across the remaining rounds to secure his place on the podium.
After the match, Loung said he was very thankful to those who came to support him.
