Part of the torch relay for the National Games will be held on both sides of Victoria Harbour and at some competition venues, according to Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law.
On Tuesday, Law unveiled several details about the relay that will be held at the beginning of next month in an exclusive interview with RTHK, ahead of the nationwide games that begins in less than 20 days.
Law hopes the torch relay can showcase the city's landmarks.
"Victoria Harbour is world-famous. We're thinking of including elements of the harbour in the torch relay — meaning parts of it will be held on both sides of the harbour.
"We're also hosting eight events at different venues and locations. We have carefully considered which of these venues or places can be incorporated into the relay segments."
As for relay runners, Law said that apart from representatives from the sports sector, it is very likely that organisations helping with the Games, as well as volunteers, will also participate.
But the government is still finalising the number of runners, she said.
Law, who also heads the SAR's National Games delegation, is confident local athletes will make the podium for the eight sports that will be staged here, including golf, fencing and rugby sevens.
But she stressed it's most important for Hong Kong representatives to make friends with athletes from Guangdong and Macau, adding that sportsmanship takes precedence over winning.
The official will also try to head to venues in Guangdong and Macau, to observe how they've organised things for the Games.
With about 400,000 tickets up for grabs for events in Hong Kong, Law said sales are progressing well, with around 140,000 already sold.
The government expects the National Games to attract approximately 100,000 mainland visitors, and the minister said attractions such as Ocean Park and Hong Kong Disneyland have already prepared for the expected influx of tourists.
She believes the nationwide event will also boost multi-destination tourism.
The Games will run between November 9 and 21.
