The Hong Kong men's handball team has clinched a spot in the National Games quarterfinals, securing their place in the top eight despite a tough 19-35 loss to a strong Beijing side in their final group match on Tuesday.
Held at the Kai Tak Sports Park, the match saw the SAR team face a significant challenge, trailing 6-17 by halftime against the last tournament's runners-up.
However, the defeat did not derail their overall campaign.
Hong Kong's path to the knockout stage was built on a solid foundation of back-to-back victories over Shanghai and Macau on home soil, which propelled them through Group A with a final record of two wins and two losses.
This successful run helped them overcome an opening-day loss to Anhui.
