Hong Kong wushu athlete Samuel Hui said on Thursday that he wants to give a "goosebumps-inducing" performance at the upcoming Asian Games.
Having won a gold in the Men's Taijijian event at the World University Games in Chengdu in July, Hui said it is more important to enjoy the competition than to focus on the awards.
"I want all the audience and judges to experience my ten years of hard work. I really want to show them how hard I work on my own routine, my own design, and show them who Samuel Hui is," he said.
"I really want to have fun. I really want to enjoy the competitions I have now and in the future. I don't really care about the medals or the results."
Another local wushu star, Lydia Sham, said she’s expecting tough competition in the upcoming Games.
"I think a stable performance will be the most challenging for me because we don't know how the environment will be like and how the audience will react during my performance," she said.
"There are so many unknown conditions and also external factors so I think the things that I can't control is the most challenging, but I will try to focus on myself during my performance."
The Hong Kong wushu team, featuring seven martial artists, will head to Hangzhou at the end of the month.
