Rugby sevens veteran Yiu Kam-shing and wushu sensation Juanita Mok will be Hong Kong's flag bearers when the Asian Games open in Hangzhou on Saturday.

Hong Kong delegation leader Kenneth Fok on Thursday said the pair were picked in part because of their past achievements.

Both athletes said they are honoured to have been chosen to bear the flag and hope to be empowered by the experience.

"I made an effort to go on YouTube to see how flag bearers at the Tokyo Olympics walk, how to hold the flag. I see that the flag's quite long, it seems rather heavy," Mok told reporters.

"But today I see Yiu Kam-shing, I have no more worries, because his arms are so strong. He can really share the burden."

Star fencer Vivian Kong, meanwhile, said she feels she's at her peak physically, and wants to do her best so everyone can enjoy her performances.

"We train really hard every single day so, we're just really excited and ready to fence," she said.

Both Kong and fellow fencing star Cheung Ka-long said they are hopeful of grabbing gold medals at the tournament.
