Hong Kong rower Chiu Hin-chun won the bronze in the men's single sculls on Monday at the 19th Asian Games, narrowly missing out on silver by less than a second.
Chiu was in fifth place during the first 500 metres, but fought his way into contention.
“In the last 500 metres, I was thinking, ‘Am I not fast enough for a medal? I must get a medal!' I was determined to keep pushing. I gave 200 percent of my strength,” he said.
He surpassed India's Balraj Panwar in the last 500 metres to move into third place. He finished the race with a time of seven minutes.
Japan's Ryuta Arakawa secured the silver, while Zhang Liang of China won gold with a time of six minutes 57.06 seconds.
