The Hong Kong men's epee fencing team on Friday took home bronze medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games after reaching the podium for the first time ever.

Cedric Ho, Anson Ng, Fong Hoi-sun and Lau Ho-fung bowed out of the semi-finals at the hands of Kazakhstan, who won 45-30.

Vadim Sharlaimov, who stands two metres tall, dominated the bouts by outscoring his opponents 22 to 13.

The SAR had beaten Uzbekistan earlier in the day for a spot in the final four.

Overall, Hong Kong fencers wrapped up their trip to Hangzhou with one gold, one silver and seven bronze medals – their best result in the history of the tournament.
