Chief Executive John Lee on Sunday said Hong Kong had gone through a positive change as the public could now safely express their patriotism in public, during festive periods celebrating the nation.

Posting a video on social media, Lee noted that just a few years ago, people might not have been able to express their feelings towards their country in public.

But that has changed, he said, following the introduction of national security laws.

The Chief Executive said the government has organised a series of activities to promote national education - especially as this year is the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

"In the two previous Policy Addresses, we have mentioned promoting national education. We will continue to cultivate students' patriotism through integrating national education into every day schooling," Lee said.

Meanwhile, he said the government had received some 6,900 public views for his Policy Address, around 10 percent more than last year.

Lee again called on people to take part in the consultation exercise for him to put together an address that belongs to all.
