Security has been tightened in recent days in the heart of Beijing ahead of a military parade on Wednesday marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Police vehicles were seen on standby along Chang'an Street and the area adjacent to Tiananmen Square.
Officers also stopped passers-by for identity checks around Wangfujing subway station.
Some people said they didn't think the stepped-up security checks affected their everyday life much.
"So it's a bit stringent – but it doesn't affect my daily life at all," one student told RTHK.
"Everything is very good, very smooth, including the security check," said another student.
"I really look forward to seeing the country showing our strength and prosperity."
Some tourist hotspots, like the Palace Museum, were also temporarily closed.
A traveller from Wenzhou said she had wanted to go to the museum, but she didn't mind visiting some other time.
She said she is looking forward to seeing new models of artillery developed by the country on television during the parade.
