Some secondary school students said they felt overwhelmed at seeing Wednesday's large-scale military parade in Beijing, as the event was broadcast live in the SAR to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

A flag-raising ceremony was also at the broadcast venue in Sha Tin.

Hinrich Hui from Pui Kiu College was among the members of a team arranged by the Association of Hong Kong Flag-guards.

"We have learned that during the process, although we might have some pain, we might have a lot of effort put into the process of training," he said.

"However, I believed such efforts and pain that we have gone through is not as much as the ancestors of ours during the Japanese War."

Another member of the team, Joanne Li, told RTHK that she was impressed by the military parade.

"I'm very overwhelmed, and I can feel the nation's strength. As part of the nation, I felt extremely proud," she said.

"Seeing how strong the nation is now, we will no longer be coerced by other countries, or allow them to do anything that is detrimental to our nation, or harm the nation's sovereignty and people. Now that we've become that strong, our nation will have sufficient power to ensure the people's safety and protect its sovereignty. I feel incredibly proud."

With the parade showcasing a large number of new weapons, student Henry Kwok, who referred to himself as a military fan, said he couldn't sleep on Tuesday night because he was so excited.

He added that the live broadcast allowed pupils to deepen their understanding of the nation's technological development.
