While Hong Kong celebrated the city's first swimming medal at the National Games on Thursday, other swimmers from the SAR narrowly missed out on adding to the medal tally in their events.
The day saw several strong performances from Hong Kong athletes.
In the men's 50-metre breaststroke final, 19-year-old Adam Mak put in a valiant effort, finishing fifth with a time of 27.71 seconds.
Mak, who had one of the fastest reaction times off the block, was upbeat after the race.
"I am satisfied. It was better than yesterday's," Mak told RTHK.
"I was able to sleep a lot more yesterday. I want to treat this like any other competition so I don't give myself that much pressure."
The SAR's mixed 4x100-metre medley relay team of Cindy Cheung, Nicholas Cheung, Ralph Koo and Li Sum-yiu also missed the podium, placing sixth with a time of three minutes and 51.99 seconds.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Kassy Yeung’s campaign in the women's 200-metre butterfly came to an end in the semi-finals.
She finishing eleventh overall with a time of two minutes and 11.11 seconds.
