Two Hong Kong swimmers on Saturday advanced in their events at the National Games while others did not progress.

Ian Ho got off to a good start in the men’s 50m freestyle as the SAR record holder in the event clocked 22.62 seconds, topping his heat and ranking fifth overall to reach the semifinals.

Teammate Nathan Chan failed to join Ho in the top 16 after placing 37th.

Cindy Cheung also booked a place in the semifinals in the women’s 200m backstroke, as her time of two minutes 12.95 seconds was good enough for sixth overall in the heats.

Ho and Cheung will next compete at 7.37pm and 7.18pm on Saturday.

On a less fortunate note, teammates Ashley Chan and Ho Pui-yan did not advance.

Similarly, Kassy Yeung struggled in the women’s 50m butterfly heats and failed to move on.

All three SAR athletes in the men’s 100m butterfly missed out on the semifinals with Ralph Koo, Zhu Xiuping, and Li Sing-hoi finishing 24th, 27th, and 33rd.

And the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team – consisting of Barry Lai, Wang Yishun, George Chan, and Lo Tsz-lam – also failed to reach the final, placing last in their heat and 11th overall.
