Hong Kong’s swimming star Siobhan Haughey secured her second gold medal of the National Games on Saturday after delivering a dominant performance to win the women’s 100-metre freestyle.
The Asian record holder for this event, swimming in lane four, led from start to finish and clocked a winning time of 52.89 seconds, finishing almost half a body length ahead of her closest rival.
This victory comes just two days after her gold medal win in the 200-metre freestyle.
Haughey said she is very happy with her performance so far, adding that she is satisfied with the time she clocked.
"Before coming to this competition, I didn’t have high expectations. I just hoped to do my best," she said.
"Now that I’ve won two gold medals so far, I’m very happy. I’m satisfied. I think 52 seconds is a very good time for me at this stage."
The podium was completed by Yang Junxuan of Shandong, and Cheng Yujie of Jiangxi.
Haughey will look to continue her success in the 50-metre breaststroke and 50-metre freestyle events on Sunday.
"I think I need to relax well, get a massage and a good night's sleep tonight," she said.
"I know there isn’t much time between the two events tomorrow, so I need to manage my recovery after the 50 metres.
"I need to quickly recover and then I’ll think about tomorrow's competition later."
This is the city's fourth gold medal at the National Games.
