Team Hong Kong on Sunday won a mixed relay silver in triathlon at the National Games on Sunday.

The team of Cade Wright, Robin Elg, Bailee Brown and Oscar Coggins finished the Central Harbourfront course in a time of one hour, 24 minutes and 16 seconds.

That was 11 seconds slower than the gold medallists from Shandong.

The two teams exchanged the lead throughout the race, with Hong Kong having an advantage when the first two athletes — Wright and Elg — finished their legs.

However, stronger swims and runs by Yang Yifan and Zhang Xirui — who both won the individual test event races back in March — ensured gold for Team Shandong.

Coggins said the plan was for Team Hong Kong to push the pace throughout the race, and he said they executed their plan well.

"We knew we were one of the stronger teams, especially across four athletes, so we wanted to make the race really hard," said Coggins, who'd won a bronze in the men's individual race on Saturday.

"Robin did a really good job of really pushing the pace and making it so that there was only three or four teams who had a chance of getting a win or on the podium after the second or third leg."

Wright, meanwhile, said she's very happy the team did well and achieved their target of making the podium.
