Hong Kong swimming star Siobhan Haughey claimed two bronze medals at the National Games on Monday in a stunning display of endurance and skill, achieving the remarkable feat of medalling in every event she competed in.
Haughey faced a formidable challenge, racing in the 50-metre breaststroke and the 50-metre freestyle which were separated by a mere five-minute interval in Shenzhen.
She first secured third place in the breaststroke with a time of 30.71 seconds, finishing behind gold medallist Tang Qianting of Shanghai and Shanxi's Chang Yang.
Her teammate, Eunis Man, placed sixth in the same race.
Demonstrating incredible resilience, Haughey was back in the pool soon after for the freestyle final.
There, she clinched another bronze, tying with Zhejiang's Lu Yue at 24.84 seconds.
The race was won by Zhejiang's Wu Qingfeng, with Cheng Yujie of Jiangxi taking silver.
Haughey admitted the tight schedule was a significant test.
"I could feel myself breathing heavily during the 'take your mark' in the freestyle, but it was an opportunity to challenge myself because I had never competed in two events that were so close in time," she said.
Despite the difficulty, the Olympian was thrilled with the outcome.
"I wanted to see how I would perform. I was quite happy to get two bronze medals. I am satisfied because I know these aren't my main events and the other competitors are so strong," she said.
These two bronze medals add to the two golds Haughey previously won in the 100-metre and 200-metre freestyle events, bringing her National Games debut haul to an impressive four medals.
