Hong Kong tennis sensation Coleman Wong can look forward to at least a bronze medal at the National Games after reaching the men's singles semi-finals in Hengqin.
On Tuesday, he cruised past Beijing's Cui Jie in straight sets, in part powered by nine of his signature aces.
Wong, 21, overcame a service break by Cui, 42, early on to come up with a double-break of his own to take the first set 7-5.
The Hong Kong player then came out red-hot in the second, smashing his way to a 6-0 win.
Wong said he never doubted himself during the game, despite his opponent's stronger start.
"I just kept believing. I didn't start the match very well - I was rather tired due to the singles and doubles matches the day before," he said.
"I arrived here and felt rather uncomfortable during warm-ups. I was sore here and there, heavy legs. But I'm very happy I overcame all that so that I can go get rested and come back playing the next day."
Wong's medal will be the first ever for a Hong Kong singles player at the National Games.
The semi-finals are due to take place on Wednesday morning in Hengqin.
