The Hong Kong men's under-22 basketball team finished in ninth place at the National Games, following a hard-fought 109-105 victory over Fujian in their final placement match on Tuesday.
The tournament, one of eight events hosted by the city at this year's National Games, was staged at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
After a loss in the group stages, the SAR team entered the classification rounds to compete for positions nine through eleven.
Hong Kong's path to the ninth-place game was shortened by their earlier performance.
A previous group-stage victory over Sichuan meant they did not have to face the team again in the playoffs, sending them directly to the match against Fujian.
Tuesday's game was a nail-biter from start to finish.
Hong Kong held a close 51-46 lead at halftime, but Fujian surged back to briefly take the lead in the second half.
The SAR team stayed resilient, refusing to let their opponents pull away.
The momentum shifted back in Hong Kong's favour during the final quarter when Chung Chi-wing sank a crucial three-pointer to reclaim the lead.
Fujian remained within one or two points, keeping the outcome uncertain until the very last seconds.
With just 24 seconds left on the clock, Chung displayed nerves of steel, adding a few more points to seal the 109-105 victory.
The win was powered by standout individual performances with Ng Wai-tsun being the game's top scorer with 33 points, while captain Ivan Yang delivered a massive double-double of 32 points and 21 rebounds.
Chung Chi-wing was instrumental on both fronts, adding 24 points and dishing out 11 assists for his teammates.
