The Hong Kong men's foil team rode on a wave of home support to reach the National Games final in Kai Tak on Wednesday — the first time they've done so in the competition.
They cruised past Team Jiangsu in the semifinals, and are due to fence for the grand prize at 7.30pm.
Fencers Ryan Choi, Edgar Cheung and Leung Chin-yu were mostly in control, using their experience against their younger opponents from Jiangsu at the Kai Tak Arena.
Choi started off against Qiang Lumin by trailing 3-5, but Cheung won the next bout 7-2.
Hong Kong never looked back from then on as the local trio scored maximum points in all bouts the rest of the way for a 45-30 victory.
The foil team, which also includes Lawrence Ng, made it to a National Games final for the first time in history, and they'll face Fujian in the gold medal match.
The women's sabre team, however, suffered a heart-breaking quarter-final defeat, as Summer Sit, Laren Leung, Apple Chu and Chloe Lau lost 45-42 against Guangdong.
